Indigenous Camosun alumni share lives well lived

Eyēʔ Sqȃ’lewen, the Centre for Indigenous Education and Community Connections at 鶹Լ, hosts the Lives Well Lived forum on Friday, Nov. 26 at 1pm, featuring 10 exceptional Indigenous alumni sharing their life experiences since graduation.

“It is a pleasure to welcome back alumni to campus and learn from them,” says Camosun President Sherri Bell. “As a community college, we are proud of supporting Indigenous student success, and while we have come a long way in Indigenous education and Indigenous student support, we still have much more to do.”

The Indigenous Alumni Forum is moderated by television personality, singer and former Saulteau First Nation Chief Art Napoleon. Throughout the afternoon, panelists will explore their unique personal perspectives, careers and life journeys since their college studies. Each of the college’s five decades, from the 1970s to the present, will be represented by two alumni.

“Extraordinary and accomplished people have emerged from classrooms at Camosun over the years,” says Janice Simcoe, Anishinaabe (Rama), Director of Eyēʔ Sqȃ’lewen.“The panelists' stories are not just about when they connected with the college over the years, but what they learned and what shaped them to be prepared to do significant work in the world and what that work entails.”

With “good heart, good mind and good feelings,” the event is presented as part of both the college’s 50th anniversary celebrations as well as the 30th anniversary of Eyēʔ Sqȃ’lewen.

Camosun students and employees can share in the learning experience either live-streamed on or in person on Friday, Nov. 26 starting at 1pm at the Social Stairs in the Alex & Jo Campbell Centre for Health and Wellness, at Interurban campus. Seating is limited. Vaccine passports and masks are required.
