My name is Sarah, and my Hebrew name is 砖专讛 专谞讛 (Sarah Rinah). I am Jewish, and I am of Scottish, English and Welsh descent. I am thankful to have been born and raised here on the territories of the聽l蓹k虛史蓹艐蓹n and W瘫S脕NE膯 Peoples of the Coast Salish Nations, and I am so grateful for these beautiful lands on which I live, work, and raise my family.
I am the Faculty Curriculum Lead and Co-Chair for the English Language Development (ELD) Department in the School of Access. My areas of specialization and interest include equity, diversity, and inclusion; anti-racism and social justice; intercultural communication; peer-based instructional development; and ESL, academic English, and critical thinking.
In addition, I am a member of Camosun鈥檚 Antiracism & Decolonization Action Committee (ARDA) and Co-Chair of the Women & Gender Equity Committee, and I am dedicated to championing equity, inclusion, gender equality, and social justice. I also work with colleagues in Nursing and ELD to support the offerings of the Self Care Caf茅 鈥 Camosun Edition, promoting employees鈥 and students鈥 well-being by partaking in self-care activities and sharing self-care strategies. Outside of the college, I contribute my passion to the Board of Jewish Family Services of Vancouver Island (JFSVI) and volunteer with the JFSVI Saanich Green Market, working to combat food insecurity, social isolation, and poverty.
Though I have not had as much chance to travel in my life as I would like, and plan to do in the future, I have been privileged to work with people of a wide variety of cultures, languages, traditions, and religions. I have taught my students English while they have taught me about the world.
